AYD-002-2 - Cosmo St.Clair - Now Blues For Now People - Now $15 post paid Australia

Reared in Detroit and raised on the Blues coming out of Chicago, Cosmo St. Clair would spend many young adolescent nights listening to DJs spin the classics like Howlin', Muddy and B.B. After a friend gave him a few lessons showcasing style and the reason to improvise within the standard three chord Blues, St. Clair was off and running and hasn't looked back. St. Clair's first recorded effort, Now Blues for Now People (Analog y Digi-tal Recordings) is definitely a tribute towards the more established old school blues. As he states in his own words, "In terms of its relation to popular music, and the spirit and attitude, Blues was the first Punk Rock." There are 11 cuts that feature Blues rockers like "The Spider and the Fly," an early effort by Jagger-Richards that showcases St. Clair's obvious nod to all the '60s groups from England who, before they became rockers, were simply bluesmen, to soulful harp flavored numbers like "Down Home Girl." As far as the band's duties go, St. Clair handles most of the stringed instruments, including guitar, bass and vocals. Harp player Sunny Girl Yoko expertly blows throughout. Rounding out the band is Rob Klonel on drums. St. Clair's version of John Lee Hooker's "Boom, Boom" incorporates the great Hammond B-3 sound that was essential in many of those early recordings, along with some ample picking by St. Clair himself. - Bruce Coen, Blues Bytes-Oct. 2002 TO ORDER

Blues Revue Magazine, May 2000:
STEVE WHITE & THE BARSTOOL PIGEONS dish out a bit of swing, killer funk and loads of deep fried soul. The musical question 'What's a Man To Do?'(Sugar Beat 2001) kicks off a set defined by the bandleader's keyboards and saxophone and Mike Fishell's versatile guitar. White's intense voice matches his R&B-drenched songs, with their hints of Louis Jordan, Tyrone Davis, Little Feat, Jackie Wilson, Dr. John, Creedence and more bubbling below the surface. The minor-key Latin groove  "Take These Blues" stands out from a stellar set"

MuzikMan's Sound Script, March 23, 2000:by Keith Hannaleck
What's a man to do?, without the walk of the blues in his shoes life wouldn't be interesting. Steve White and the Barstool Pigeons play a flavorful brew of the blues. White is a multi-instrumentalist, (lead vocals, keyboards, saxophone, harmonica and flute) singer and songwriter that has a knack of playing tasty blues-rock that maintains a steady and soulful groove.

White's cause is supported by some stellar seasoned musicians. Mike Fishell (guitars, dobro, vocals, bass), Bernie Travers (bass, vocals), Kelvin Ammons (drums, percussion, vocals) give their all to make the Barstool Pigeons a well greased blues unit. This is roadhouse blues that obviously would thrive and come to a full boil in a live setting. It all made me feel like I was sitting in a smoke filled venue with the smell of beer and women with too much perfume. It all seemingly folds right into the sounds that permeate this room viewed through the window of mysoul. Music that has such feeling and emotion is bound to promote various feelings and scenarios in your mind. This CD is comprised of a good helpin' of blues music that leaves a lasting impression. An impressive debut from a band that I'm sure will be heard from again soon.

Radiotones - Whiskey'd Up - 2000 Buzz012000 - RADIOTONES - Whiskey'd Up - New Album from RADIOTONES!
R ADI OTO NES - National guitar-driven sounds breathe new life into the blues with a playlist of mostly original material influenced as much by the new wave of 'Americana', folk, country, rockabilly and punk as the pre-war Delta blues masters like Bukka White, Blind Willie Johnson and Son House.  The album, featuring eight brand new original R ADIOTONES tracks and four re-works of Delta blues classics, was recorded live at CaVa studios, Glasgow in August 2000.  Whiskey'd Up is the follow up to last year's well-received debut CD album Gravel Road which broke the band at an international level with extensive worldwide radio airplay and positive reviews.         Listen to the RADIOTONES

The Music.

Inspiration comes from blues roots, but owes as much to rockabilly, punk and the new wave of Americana as it does to pre-war Delta blues. The official line is 'National guitar-driven acoustic garage blues'.

What the Papers say about the RADIOTONES-

"Gravel Road combines rattling stop-start originals with excellent versions of staples such as This Is Hip. They (RADIOTONES) finish with a delicious hidden track, as evocative of the Caledonian wilderness as of the Mississippi Delta..." - MOJO MAGAZINE

"The post-apocalyptic coffeehouse sound of RADIOTONES is unique...singer Dave Arcari provides as much percussion as harmonic architecture with his resonator guitars. His gruff vocals one-up the music's intentionally roughened Delta sound..." web site www.radiotones.com

Stacy Mitchhart -What I feel DSR004 Stacy Mitchhart - What I Feel - Dr. Sam Records
Ol' school R&B, funk and jazz, providing original songs and Blues classics with a contemporary Soul Blues sound.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Stacy Mitchhart and Blues-U-Can Use have been the featured attraction at the Bourbon Street, Blues & Boogie Bar, located on Historic Printer's Alley in Nashville,Tennessee. Stacy has recorded four CDs and shared the stage with many of the great blues acts; Bobby "Blue" Bland, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Mack,Shemekia Copeland, Jonny Lang, Rod Piazza, Rufus Thomas,Kenny Neal, Keb' Mo', James Brown and many more. Of guitarist-vocalist-songwriter-producer Stacy Mitchhart, Bobby "Blue" Bland says: "Watch out! This is one bad young man!"
Of the fourteen songs on the album, eight of them are original works, including the title track "What I Feel."
"What I Feel" is a strong, blue-eyed Southern soul entry from Nashville guitarist Stacy Mitchhart. Mitchhart strikes a good balance of classic sounds - he surrounds his gritty vocals with a gospel-edged backing trio on the midtempo title song, and offers soaring soul-blues ballad with "Caught Up in the Middle" - with updates like a P-Funk-meets-the-J.B.'s take on "King Bee." Shock (he strips Z.Z. Hill's "Down Home Blues" to its roots, with a sparkling solo resonator guitar performance) blends with familiarity ("Keep Bluesn'" nods to B.B. King), all done well, but Mitchhart's strongest suit is the '60s and '70s R&B and contemporary soul-blues that makes up the backbone of the disc. Super Stuff." - Ed Ivey/BLUES REVUE (May 2001)

SAZ4232 Calvin Owens - The Best Of Calvin Owens Recently named a "Most Outstanding Blues Musician" in the 2001 "Living Blues" magazine Critics' Awards, Calvin Owens has been making music professionally a long time-since 1946, to be precise. This album showcases the amazing diversity that is Sawdust Alley Records and the man behind it all. Comprised of 13 tracks that Calvin personally considers to be "the best" representation of his most recent accomplishments, it offers a variety of tones and textures that collectively transcend any ready-made musical categorization. As such, it's a document that celebrates the coalescence of a classic "true blue" sound with a host of contemporary and multi-cultural influences. Includes guests: B.B. King, Johnny Copeland, David "Fathead" Newman, Trudy Lynn, Otis Clay, and others.
