TERRY ROBB
"Stop This World"
(Burnside 0025)
Terry Robb has been a major fixture on
the Northwest Blues scene for many years. On "Stop This World", Terry's second
Burnside release, he's joined by his long-time cohort, Curtis Salgado (Robert
Cray Band, Roomful of Blues), as well as premier blues guitarist Eddy Clearwater
& gifted vocalist Maria Muldaur. "Robb knows how to leave space, giving
a song room to breathe and live, and how to animate an arrangement with the
galvanic tickle of sly, understated guitar wizardry. He's managed to take inspiration
from great acoustic blues players and update it with his flawless technique,
while never losing the soul and propulsion of the blues".

SHEILA WILCOXSON
"Backwater Blues"
(Burnside 0027)
*guest appearances by Terry Robb (also
as producer) & Curtis Salgado.
Sheila Wilcoxson is one of Portland's
undiscovered treasures. With her blend of Delta blues vocals & colorful
descriptions of stories from the heart, Sheila brings you a powerful and enticing
vein of Northwestern blues. Powerful covers of Hoyt Axton's "Sweet Misery" &
acapella versions of Leadbelly's "Looky Looky Yonder/ BlackBetty" . Throughout
the album, the music is amazing, but what brings it all home is Sheila's penetrating
vocals. "Blessed with a stunning four-octave range, she blends sweetness with
the soulful feel of classic blues divas. On this acoustic album she nimbly moves
from deep-voiced gospel to sexy torch songs." - Art Levine, U.S. News &
World Report
BILL RHOADES & ALAN HAGER
"Runnin' & Ramblin'"
(Burnside 0030)
Produced by label mate Terry Robb, "Runnin'
& Ramblin'' is authentic traditional acoustic blues rendered by musicians
who resonate the very essence of the blues. The intermingling of Bill Rhoades'
harp and Alan Hager's guitar is what this record is all about. Just plain simple
country blues played with all of the emotion and fervor that inspired the music
back in its creation in the 1920's. In addition to traditional blues songs such
as "John Henry," and "See That My GraveIs Kept Clean," Runnin' & Ramblin'
also features original compositions by both Bill and Alan including Alan Hager's
title track, "I'll Show You How," and Bill Rhoades "Blue Collar Worker."

PAUL BRASCH
"Find My Way"
(Burnside 0033)
"Everybody feels bad, there's no age
limit on feeling the blues"
This is a quote from Paul Brasch, a young
man who can play and sing the blues with a passion that belies his24 years.
Paul's style of playing is fashioned after the country blues players of the
'30's and 40's such as Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt
and Son House.
"Find My Way", Paul's debut on Burnside
Records is a spare and sincere recording that captures the raw power and honesty
of the Delta Blues and follows the same path as former label mate Kelly Joe
Phelps followed five years previously. His gruff, earthy voice and intricate
guitar playing are true to the form with the occasional inclusion of spoons
and brushes by John 'Midnight' Cage from Too Slim & The Taildraggers and
some harp blowing by Damien Cohn. Most of the songs were penned by Paul with
spirited covers including Hank William's' "I Heard That Lonesome Whistle Blow"
and the country classic "Six Days On The Road".
MICK CLARKE
"New Mountain"
(BCD 0037)
Mick's mesmerizing electric guitar playing
has kept European audiences satisfied for over 25 years, beginning with his
critically acclaimed first band Killing Floor. Definitely recommended for fans
of the British blues/rock invasion of the late '60's (Savoy Brown, John Mayall's
Bluesbreakers and Chicken Shack). Mick's band is stronger than ever and includes
the playing of ex-Rory Gallagher keyboardist Lou Martin.
STEVE JAMES
"Boom Change"
(BCD 0038)
Steve James is described as "an underground
legend" in his now home state of Texas and is widely recognized as Austin's
prime exponent of acoustic roots/blues music. His powerful string work, visceral
vocals and thoughtful song writing prevail throughout on "Boom Chang", his first
release for Burnside Records. Featured guests include Alvin Youngblood Hart
(6 & 12 string guitars & mandolin), Mark Rubin (tuba), Gary Primich
(harmonica), and Cindy Cashdollar (Hawaiian guitar and Dobro).
ROD PRICE
"Open"
(BCD 0039)
"Legends of Rock Guitar" credits Price
with "The finest and most aggressive slide playing heard on either side of the
Atlantic". The solo debut from Foghat lead guitarist, "Open" takes Rod full
circle back to his true passion - Chicago style blues and puts Price in his
element playing with a feeling and a fire that is, without a doubt, his best
work ever. Featuring the vocals and harmonica work of the legendary "Shakey
Vick" from Rod's first blues gig "Shakey Vick's Big City Blues Band", the "Open"
CD is the real deal - a powerhouse of emotion, warmth, and excitement with the
maturity of players who grew up nurtured in the spirit of blues. Dedicated to
the memory of Foghat's Lonesome Dave Peverett. Selected tracks included "One
More Time", "Sitting On Top Of The World", "Key To The Highway" and "Long Distance
Call".

TERRY ROBB
"Heart Made Of Steel"
(BCD 0040)
"Heart Made of Steel" incorporates all
of the great acoustic blues work that Terry is famous for, along with a totally
new horn backed, jazz influenced blues that is completely unique for this style.
From the opening refrain of "Home Improvement", a slicker big band blues sound
with acoustic guitar powers through clean, tight and elegant. Terry's pre-war
acoustic blues sound is still unmistakable in"Drag in F". "Cypress Inn Stomp",
the jump/bounce - blues based "Omaha Bounce", and "Enron Blues" showcase Terry's
masterful guitar playing. The Stax influenced "Down and Out" extend the feel
of this record stylistically, but the horn arrangements and Terry's brilliant
guitar playing pull the sound together for a unique, sophisticated but fun recording.
